Accommodation tips?

Hi All,

My name is Kelly and I am in the second year of a BA at the University of Western Australia in Perth.
I have applied for student exchange at the University of Sheffield, beginning this September.
My question is about accommodation. Basically any tips, or advice is well appreciated.
I'm 22, have lived out of home since graduating from high school, and I am used to being independent so I am more interested in the self catered accommodation rather than halls of residence.
So what's better? Flats or houses? I quite like the look of flats, but then you never see any pics of the houses.
Is it worth paying the extra money for a room with an en suite?
Which flats would you say have the best value for money?
What's the best location?
Why? Why? Why?
Ok, enough questions. Again, any advice is appreciated.

Kel.

After looking for (and failing to find) an existing community for my uni, I decided to join this one.

My name's Heather and I'm a 20 year old third year at Newcastle. I'm studying Law with French so I'm off on my year abroad at the moment. It has to be said, there's no place like home!

So the new year has arrived, and the workload will inevitably be torture. Did anyone have resits? What was the outcome? I was thinking of quitting uni after I came back from Canada yesterday, but now i'm back in Manchester and I can hardly leave!

Has anyone else sorted out their houses for next year (if you're a first year) yet? We've just got our lease through, but we've noticed that we'll be paying from 3rd September onwards. Is this normal or are we getting fucked over?
